COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Lockard & White, a leading provider of network and telecommunications engineering services to critical infrastructure providers, was selected by Turlock Irrigation District (TID) to provide an analysis and preliminary engineering design services for the replacement of its JungleMux SONET network over fiber optic transport.

Due to aging infrastructure, the need to migrate to a more modern technology with increased stability, and a growing knowledge gap on end-of-life equipment, TID chose to seek out specialized expertise to support the assessment of the current state system and to develop options for a suitable replacement.

“The ultimate replacement of TID’s SONET network impacts key TID systems including the visibility of our substations, remote control of our system from our Power Control Center and certain operational components of our irrigation network. The development of the technical requirements and the RFP process to select a vendor are critical to the overall success of the project” explained Josiah Enas, Senior Electrical Engineer.

“We appreciate the trust that TID has placed in our team on this partnership, and we look forward to working closely with them on designing a more suitable alternative to the current SONET system.  The development of a more flexible, hardened and future-proof system to support TID’s fiber optic transport will allow them to deliver reliable and secure services to both internal Operations and TID’s customers” said Joey Rychetsky, Chief Operating Officer at Lockard & White.

The L&W team will drive the engagement, interfacing with TID stakeholders to assess the current JMUX SONET system, including gaps in capabilities, identifying problem areas and documenting the requirements of a future solution.  The project will include the preliminary design of an alternative solution followed by a Procurement effort to solicit bids, evaluate vendor responses and support TID in selecting the best solution for their needs.
